Since the 2006–2007 concert season, Jordi Savall and his various ensembles have been resident at the Auditori in Barcelona. The overall title of their concert cycle is El So Original(the original sound) because Jordi Savall and his musical ensembles try to bring to their audiences the special sonority of ancient music played with historical criteria on original instruments.

Religious and secular music of the mediaeval, Renaissance and Baroque periods was originally conceived to be performed in palaces or churches. Consequently, many of the concerts in Jordi Savall’s cycle at the Auditori are not given in the auditorium itself, but in historic monuments in Barcelona such as the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Pedralbes, the Reials Drassanes, the church of Santa Maria del Pi, the Saló del Tinell in the mediaeval royal palace or in the basilica of Santa Maria del Mar, amongst others. It is in places such as these that we truly approach the Original Sound.
