Homage to Daniele Carnovich
Un hombre y una voz de calidad
Dear friends, at down on this first day of autumn, Maite Arrabarrena, gave us some very sad news: Daniele Carnovich, her beloved husband and father to Angela and Andoni, left us after months of struggle against a terrible disease.
Almost 40 years ago I had the good luck of meeting Daniele during the rehearsals of the Vespro della Beata Vergine by Claudio Monteverdi, in Basel with the Centro Musica Antica di Padova choir. A wonderful musical ensemble that had been invited for the project. During the auditions with the main soloists I had the chance to listen to his magnificent deep-bass voice and his quality as a singer.
Since then and until the 7th of January of this year, Daniele has spend almost 40 years loyally collaborating with his unique voice and musicality as a soloist and the main bass with HESPÈRION XX/XXI and LA CAPELLA REIAL DE CATALUNYA. With this trajectory of hundreds of concerts around the world, thousands of hours in recording in Cardona until late hours of the night, recordings such as the Llibre Vermell de Montserrat, the Cancioneros de los Siglos de oro and works by Joan Cererols, Tomas Luís de Victoria, Francisco Guerrero, Cristóbal de Morales, Juan del Encina, Claudio Monteverdi, Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber, J. S. Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, W. A. Mozart, up until Arvo Pärt. His profound and cantabile voice his clear and expressive diction have left an beautiful and unmistakable trace. Unforgettable experiences that will always accompany us in our memories together with the wonderful souvenir of his friendship and his virtues as a person. To all of us he was a wise, sensitive, and generous companion who was always capable of bringing about an atmosphere of camaraderie, good mood and trust around him.
Dear Daniele, in our world you will be sorely missed but the spirit of your song and your friendship will forever be with us because those who love and admire you shall never forget you. Rest in peace and may the celestial music accompany you in your last journey.
Jordi Savall and Maria Bartels,
the singers of LA CAPELLA REIAL DE CATALUNYA, the musicians HESPÈRION XXI y de LE CONCERT DES NATIONS and all collaborators of Fundació CIMA y de ALIA VOX.
